SF street protests

by reporter Saturday, Mar. 22, 2003 at 1:50 AM

Cleaning up after the children

SAN FRANCISCO: Here's one reason the anti-war movement has been a failure:

I had some problems getting to work today. A few people (not a lot) blocked some city streets to protest the war. Just a few minutes ago, the whole group of protesters (maybe one hundred and fifty) walked down the middle of Second Street trying to put up barricades by rolling garbage bins and dragging newspaper boxes into the street. They spilled a lot of "Bay Guardians" - a far left free daily -- in the process. The police followed behind, cleaning up after them, but not really arresting anyone. Really, what would be the point?

I watched the proceedings from my office window with a co-worker. He's a strong Democrat and he opposes the war. Looking down at the pathetic-looking group and their shenanigans, he shook his head and said "It makes me want to support Bush."

Someone needs to tell the protesters that trying to shut down San Francisco, the city that loves France, is not going to have any effect of America's foreign policy. All they're doing is pissing off their choir.

Only one problem with this analysis: these protests are about no-one but the protestors. It's their anti-Bush therapy. They're going to need much more of it in the near future.

New York: Here's one reason the police state movement has been a failure:

I had some problems getting to protest today. A couple thousand police (not a lot) blocked some city streets to end protest of the war. Just a few minutes ago, the whole group of police (maybe three to four thousand) rode unwilling horses down the middle of Broadway trying to put up barricades by tear gassing people and dragging the injured into the street. They spilled a lot of "Blood" - a necessary bodily fluid -- in the process. The protesters followed behind, acting as witnesses, but not really able to help anyone. Really, what would be the point?

I watched the proceedings from the street with fifty thousand others. They opposes the war, and take the time to voice this opinion. Looking up at the pathetic-looking MTV, its corporate officies and the news broadcast in progress , I shook my head and said "It makes me want to support anti capitalists."

Someone needs to tell the business people trying to keep New York Running, the city that loves no one, is not going to have any positive effect of America's foreign policy. All they're doing is pissing off anyone with a concience.

good use of cops?

During these times when the terrorist threat is increased, we have the police wasting time cleaning up these children's mess. Disgusting.

SF is full of notcom losers.

The real losers

by Galia Saturday, Mar. 22, 2003 at 5:46 AM

The real losers are those who sit back and watch their government drop bombs in Iraq in an illegal war, bombs that could potentially kill --mostly civilians--100,000 and cause another 125,000 civilians to die from disease, famine, etc. The real losers are those who ignored what their government is doing in their name. The realy losers are those ignorant of the U.S.'s 50 year history of supporting dictatorships in the Middle East with $ and weapons. The real losers are those who believe in Bush's lies justifying this war. The real losers are those who believe Bush's nonsense that this is a war for democracy after Bush 1 in the Gulf War told the Iraqui people to rebel and when the Kurds in the North and the Shiite in the South did so calmly by U.S. government order let & I mean let them be killed. The real losers are those who believe in the lies that Iraq is a danger to the U.S.--that's utter nonse. Iraq is a danger to no other government, not even its neighbors. The real losers are those who support Bush and this awful war.

Liked when that black guy got out of his car and kicked the protesters asses for leaning on his car. You liberals are so out of touch, it is really all so self centered. Look at me! Look at me!

I CARE

by Jarles Cramsen (III) Saturday, Mar. 22, 2003 at 6:53 AM

It's not being liberal sir, it's having an opinion, and displaying it. It's also about having a conscious, and caring about others, and not wanting to bomb a country where 50% of the population are children. Damn, our bombs have missed targets before, and they'll be missing them in the months to come.
