Every Friday evening, for the past four weeks, residents of Echo Park, Silverlake and East Hollywood have been hitting the pavement and intersections in front of the Vista theatre to protest NO WAR IN IRAQ. From an initial gathering of about a dozen the first few weeks, the protest last Friday , Sept. 27 garnered easily 45 locals of all ages and ethnicities -- and, towards the end of the designated 5:30-6:30 p.m. time slot, a peace brigade of bike riders rode up to salute the sidewalkers, fan out into the intersection and twirl around in fancy bike moves. Sidewalk protesters, already excited by increasing support from passing cars (honks galore), were further energized and took an extra long time to disperse.
