"PEACE AT THE BEACH" EVENT TO COMMEMORATE THE ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11

SANTA MONICA, CA -In memory of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, there will be a Peace march, rally, and concert on Saturday, September 7, in downtown Santa Monica. Peace at the Beach will commence with a gathering at 3:00pm at 3rd Street and Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica. The gathering will begin a march to the Santa Monica Pier at 4:00pm. At 5:00pm, there will be a rally featuring speakers and live music at the end of the Pier.

"Peace at the Beach", facilitated by the Westside Greens, begins with a gathering at 3:00pm on September 7 at the corner of Wilshire Blvd. and 3rd Street. Those attending may then join in a Peace Parade that culminates at the beach, where there will be a live musical concert featuring several area bands and peace motivating speakers. All are welcome.

"This is a unique opportunity for all of us to reconsider our government's actions on the world stage," states Danny Meyer, a member of the Westside Greens Steering Committee. "We believe the only response to violence and terror that will lead to true

long term national security is one that stresses long term commitments to

social justice and democracy worldwide."

"There is growing discontent with the Bush administration's militaristic, go-it-alone approach to foreign policy," says Alex Brideau III, another member of the Westside Greens Steering Committee. "The United States is a proud and peace-loving nation, and we need to send a message to our government that some of the policies and actions they conduct in our name are the source of frustration, anger, and even danger to people throughout the world."

"Peace at the Beach" will advocate for a U.S. foreign policy that demonstrates world leadership by working through the United Nations, the only international democratic body. To guard against human rights abuses by all nations-including the United States--the event will encourage the U.S. to sign on to the International Criminal Court.

The Westside Greens is comprised of Green Party of California members from the region bounded by the Santa Monica Mountains to the North, Los Angeles Airport to the South, La Cienega Blvd to the East, and the Pacific Coast to the West. As a group, they involve themselves in activating and empowering the public in local, national, and international Green issues.

In memory of the victims of September 11, the Westside Greens is proud to co-sponsor this event to unite those who seek peace in this time of war.

This march, rally, and concert event allows those who support peace over war, freedom over oppression, and justice over vengeance an opportunity to unite and demonstrate their solidarity.

The Peace at the Beach event will show that true patriots want a foreign policy that provides real long-term solutions, as opposed to endless conflict.

The Peace at the Beach event is being held in concert with over 150 peace events around the world. The complete worldwide list of events is available at UnitedForPeace.org.

Peace at the Beach will take place Saturday, September 7 and will commence with a gathering at 3:00pm at 3rd Street and Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica. The gathering will begin a march to the Santa Monica Pier at 4:00pm. At 5:00pm, there will be a rally featuring speakers and live music at the end of the Pier.
