To commemorate the anniversary of the Chicano Moratorium, a march and rally was held in the Latino community of Highland Park. Around 300 people
(mostly Chicano/Mexicano), participated in the demonstration, whose main demands were: "No More U.S. Wars!", "Stop Police Brutality", and "Demand
Jobs, Schools, & Health Care!" Not only did the demonstrators mark the historic events of August 29th, 1970 when over 20,000 Chicanos marched to
demand an end to the Vietnam war, they also made a link to current realities. Many placards were carried that read "No War on Iraq."
I gave away mulitiple copies of my "NO MAS GUERRA" (No More War) Silkscreen Poster to the marchers. The photo on this page shows one of my Posters
proudly carried by a demonstrator.
CHICANO MORATORIUM 2002 will have an important closing Panel Discussion on Friday, August 30th. Veterans of the original moratorium will be on hand to
interact with the community on issues of war and peace. The event will take place from 7:30 - 10 pm at the Latino Museum in downtown L.A. (201 N. Los
Angeles Street. For info call: 323-261-2286). The event is free and open to the entire community.
