This is a cool little article. Densmore was one of the orignal donors to the IMC for the DNC protests. I don't know if he wants to be outed about that, but, hey - there you go. Apologies to the man. I was bummed to read that Ray Manzarek is so into selling the songs, because he not only did that cool organ playing for the doors, but also produced one of my favorite albums, X's Los Angeles. He now falls into the same category as the Beatles and Rolling Stones for selling their songs to hawk shoes and computers (and selling out their boomer audience's memories). I hope I never hear some X song hawking liquor, unless it's "Nausea." --johnk
I know it's really sad (and pathetic) about Ray. But I'm proud to say that I read John's "Riders on the Storm".
I fell in love with the man as I was reading it...one of the few 60's counterculturalists who never sold their souls, even when the temptation was there.
John, you are the man!
Others are Robby Kreeger (as i just learned from John's article), Neil Young, David Crosby, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan....shit man, i think that's about it!!
I also want to say that the performance which the remaining members of The Doors played with Scott Weiland was an utter desecration to the original spirit of The Doors, and the 60's itself.
Scott Weiland, what a fucking insult to rock.
John, heard you on KPFK. Thank you so much for espressing this view. I get so deperssed when I hear the music from the 60's and 70's being used to sell products that are the antithesis of the spirit in which the music was created.
