KPFK Radio-is the most important left, progressive, antiwar/pro-peace national radio station, establish end of the world war II in United States, currently we have 5 sister stations (Berkeley, LA, NYC, DC and Houston) and dozen affliates. I had been a proud Pacifica Radio KPFK Los Angeles volunteer/unpaid reporter/programmer for ten years, but if people know the decade-long Pacifica struggle then you know the station had many internal struggles had derailed our origional mission statements.

When I got an e-mail from my one of the good activist friend from LA about

the possbile pro-war host on our station's radio show, I could not sit do

nothing! I didn't listen to the show but I believe her judgement and took her

risk to put this e-mail public, and I am taking a great risk (since I might

loose our own radio project in KPFK) but with my believe and passion of

justice stood up high and I need to ask folks to raise your concerns to the

KPFK management at this crutial period!

I think most of the guest hosts parading through the 4pm and 5pm hrs on KPFK

have been pretty progressive, with varying degrees of ability and experience.

But today, I was a bit surprised to hear that the 4pm host was Xandra

Hayden(sp?), an occasional contributor to the LA Times and public policy

scholar who has never seemed particularly progressive to me. More a moderate

than even a liberal, is the impression I've gotten over the years.

I tried to listen with an open mind. But in the segment on Pakistan, it

seemed to me that she made remarks in support of the war on terrorism, in

support of the war in Afghanistan, and made some positive remarks about

supporting the dictator Musharref (sorry, spelling again) as a bringer of

order. I did not hear every word, since I was doing a bit of housecleaning

at the time, but this is my overall assessment of her positions.

Did anyone else hear? Do you agree with my assessment? I have been a big

proponent of not purging old hosts from KPFK either because they sided with

Schubb or they were not radical enough, but instead being okay a range of

views and approaches. But surely the LAST thing we need is NEW hosts who

don't support the mission!

Please let KPFK know how you feel about these issues, and give feedback on

new hosts and shows.

**Pacifica Radio--Mission Statement

- KPFK and Pacifica are founded upon a Mission Statement which to this day

remains unique in radio broadcasting:

- To contribute to a lasting understanding between nations and between

individuals of all nations, races, creeds and colors;

- To explore the causes of conflict; to promote the study of political and

economic problems, and of the causes of religious, philosophical and racial

antagonisms;

- To provide outlets for the creative skills and energies of the community

and to serve the cultural welfare;

- To obtain access to news sources not commonly brought together in the same

medium; and to employ varied sources to present accurate and comprehensive

news on all matters that vitally affect our community.
