Reporter [to Yolanda]: Can you describe to me what happened?
C. Ramirez: Yes, I’ll be glad to.
Yolanda Perez: As has been explained, I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was within my rights. He came from behind and all I remember is hitting the ground. When I woke up I was with paramedics. They were taking care of me.
Reporter: When you woke up were you actually — so you were knocked out. You were unconscious. Is that right?
Perez: Yes.
Reporter: What now? These people are obviously all protesting on your behalf. How do you feel about what happened?
Perez: It shouldn’t have happened. It was an injustice. I don’t want this to happen to anybody, anybody else.
Reporter: What are the doctors saying about your eye?
C. Ramirez: She has a fracture under her eye socket, and she also has damage to the eyeball. We’re still evaluating that with the doctors.
Reporter: Yolanda, what were you doing? Did you go to try to help the girl that was getting arrested, or what?
Perez: I was trying to help the kids so they wouldn’t hurt them, because they were hurting the boy, and I was going back into my house, like I said.
Reporter: So what did you do to try to help them out, Yolanda?
Perez: I told them that they shouldn’t be so rough with him.
Reporter: And when we saw the police officer on the tape, he comes up behind you. What were you doing at that point?
Perez: I was trying to get — to go back into the house.
Reporter: The police say you were drunk at the time. Had you been drinking?
Reporter [different one, male, with Spanish accent]: Were you under the influence of drugs, or medicine, or something?
Reporter [the earlier one, male, Anglo]: What were you saying to the police officer who was trying to arrest you at that point?
Perez: I really don’t remember. I just remember trying to go into the house and being thrown down on the ground. Like I said, when I woke up I was in the paramedics’ [van].
Reporter: Yolanda, have you had nightmares? Has this affected you?
Perez: Yeah. I’m afraid to be alone, afraid of the police. I’m afraid for this to happen to somebody else.
Reporter: Is your eyesight going to be O.K., or do you know yet?
Perez: I don’t know......
