MAY DAY - RECLAIM THE STREETS IN OC!

by rts oc Saturday, Apr. 20, 2002 at 7:11 PM

RECLAIM THE STREETS! CARNIVAL AGAINST CAPITALISM!

When: May 1ST

Where: Orange County

Gather in front of Loretta Sanchez Office, Reclaim the Streets march begins at 6PM (after rally)

Location: 12397 Lewis St #101, Garden Grove, CA

The Spirit of Mayday is ALIVE in Orange County! We invite everyone to come together in the spirit of mayday & join in this CELEBRATION of resistance. There will be a protest against Loretta Sanchez because she enlisted the help of the Immigrant working class community in Orange County to place herself into office. The community trusted her, and supported her, and she has failed to fight for the community that put her into office. She has voted for laws that target the Immigrant working class community, and has even helped for an INS to be built in Anaheim, she has turned her back on the people that put her where she is today, and on top of that she has also betrayed them by making their struggles even greater.

RECLAIM THE STREETS!

At 6pm after the rally there will be a festive and militant march to declare resistance to the oppressive capitalist agenda, and to create liberation from those who expliot us and our planet.

Ultimately it is in the streets that power must be dissolved: for the streets where daily life is endured, suffered and eroded, and where power is confronted and fought, must be turned into the domain where daily life is enjoyed, created and nourished.

- Rally in front of Loretta Sanchez Office @ 3PM

- Reclaim the Streets begins after rally @ 6PM

Location: 12397 Lewis St #101, Garden Grove, CA

Bring your friends, drums, signs, banners, flags, and the spirit of RESISTANCE!

SEE YOU IN THE STREETS!

Real May Day

by o Sunday, Apr. 21, 2002 at 12:51 AM

The REAL May Day demonstration will be in Long Beach - just like last year. If we don't go back, that will be sending a clear signal to Long Beach PD that they can push us around and scare us. We can't let that happen. Don't be fooled! Everyone meet in Long Beach at MacArthur Park at 12 Noon on May 1st! Rally/March begins at 1 pm!

REAL mayday?

by srg Sunday, Apr. 21, 2002 at 5:08 AM

I am really offended by the last post (by o) about calling the Orange County Mayday not being "the REAL" Mayday demo. Please, please explain what and where the REAL Mayday demo is. I do not live in OC, or in Long Beach but i will be going to Orange County for Mayday, why? Because they need more support than ever, this being the first time such a thing happens in super conservative Orange County. Also because mayday (at least to me) is not an event about "showing cops they cannot push us around and scare us," and then eventually being arrested (and then bragging to people about my mayday arrest), but about supporting those who are asking for support in building something productive (i.e. opposing immigrant laws in Anaheim, showing OC conservatives there are voices of oppossition, etc).

While i neither advocate or opposse direct action, i do think we should begin looking for new ways of "resisting" but by building ties with our community first. I have the hope Mayday at Orange county would not be another march where the majority of the attendees are middle class punk youth, but moms with their strollers, senior citizens, a very multicultural crowd. I honestly think Black Blocks (if you can call a dozen folks a block) and shields are burnt. Do not take me wrong, many friends of mine attended last year's LB mayday march (and even got arrested), unfortunately, many (with the exeption of the guy that was actually deported) also do not understand that they are proviledged folks, and that many (people of color) in orange county dont have to wait till mayday to get arrested or confront cops because they experience that every single day.

(I am just rambling now, it's pretty late), but i know many folks, anarchists, anti-authoritarians and non-@ who understand what i am talking about. But please explain to me what "signal" you have in mind to show LB cops they cant push/scare protesters around this Mayday.

Another thing...what makes you think the person who posted the OC Mayday march article did it to "fool" people?? I think you are just romanticizing militant action and trying to play heroin/hero. This is exactly one major problem i see often in marches/protests/demos, even more within anarchist/anti-authoritarian circles unfortunately. Who is more militant,? who is acting like a reformist,? etc. I bet many (anarchists) might think i am a damn reformist from just reading my post, but i know there are many other anarchists who like i want to re-examine and re-define what is/isn't effectively revolutionary. This is not about seeing who is cooler, or who's been arrested more times during protests, or how much one fucks shit up, or anything of that sort.

It's not a personal attack, just sharing feelings that have bothered me for a while that i hope you think about and analyze. I also doubt your whole LB Mayday announcement...I've lived in Long Beach but have never heard of a MacArthur Park in Long Beach. How do we know it won't be an (unorganized) LBMayday II?

On the other hand, "high five's" those brave people in OC for taking the initiative of giving birth to one more Reclaim The Streets Carnival site.

May Day in Downtown

by another one Sunday, Apr. 21, 2002 at 8:24 PM

There's another May Day event in Downtown Los Angeles, called by numerous immigrant labor advocacy groups. This is to demonstrate for those who cannot vote because they are not "citizens", or cannot protest because they are "illegal."

If you're in LA, this one will be good. It was overshadowed last time by the unfortunate events in Long Beach, but 3000 people showed up to demand their human rights.

If you're tired of internal arguments between anarchist factions, and feel like you have a choice of May Day events, this pan-political effort might prove to be the best event to support. Also, since the march is going through the downtown, a heavily immigrant shopping area, it might pick up extra participants, making for a really powerful message.

RE REAL MAY DAY

by shrapnel Tuesday, Apr. 23, 2002 at 6:17 AM

i dont know who posted the REAL MAY DAY will be in Long Beach, but just be aware. i havent heard of any event going on in LB this year(but then again im not in the know), and im not familiar with any mcarthur park in LB, only in Los angeles. i hope that REAL may Day post isnt a joke, or worse yet, some pig/Fed trying to get militant kids down to LB again to beat/shoot/arrest/profile and otherwise abuse them. so who ever posted that, would they kindly give some more info then just show up to some park and noon? we have no idea who you are and maybe your smart and want it that way, but after last year, im sure you can understand our

skeptical feelings. everyone be safe out there this may day

and be prepared. communicate, and watch out for undercovers. and cameras in general. park your car if you got one, far away, and wear a change of clothes under your regular clothes. be aware of your surroundings and try and survey the area you plan on protesting at, find escape routes, holes in police lines etc etc.

solidarity forever....yes even for pacifists, its only a matter of time....
