anarchists want power

Yes, there is an extensive discussion at the DC IMC about some suggestions made by "a small group of anti-captialist activists"; go check it out. The link above is correct. However, the individual(s) who keep highlighting this article may be doing so merely to create more fear about the so-called "black bloc" (a tactic, of course) as a means of lessing Indymedia's ability to speak truth to power. I disagree with the letter there, but I think whoever keeps reposting this is potentially somebody looking to inhibit our long-term shared goals. Beat it, pig.

a bunch of morons anarchy is not about taking power its about liberty and dignity for the people... black bloc is a useful tactic at times and its annoying how authoritarian socialists keep trying to belittle it on here.

Look, dude -- most people here are down with the tactic of Black Bloc where it serves the common good, and this is demonstrable. Black Bloc has been effective in Seattle, DC, Quebec, Genoa, etc., and Indymedia has been a fine outlet for the Black Bloc to add their voice to the Web.
Now here is my question: what problem do Bloc'ers have with IMC? Of all the targets you could select, and there are many, many worthy targets, why expend your energy railing against Indymedia?
We should look at common enemies, and how we can work together, with a variety of tactics, to fuck their shit up. Infighting among revolutionaries is unfortunately very common, but totally useless.

For you fans of the BB, this article says nothing about you. It does criticize what some consider poor journalism. While some of the points are interesting, some of the ideas (like not allowing everyone to post to the IMC) are insane and against the spirit of the imc.
As for this bb discussion, bb is a great tactic and a horrible ideology and these previous posts seem to show a certain ideological loyalty.
Then again, I wonder why the poster to the LA sight mentions anarchists in the title, I would call these people described in the article as dumbasses.

Hieronymous D, BB is a tactic not an ideology. It's not just an anarchist thing. It was started by autonomist Marxists (mostly Italian). The idea is to dress the same and mask up so that it is harder for the police to single you out from the mass of similarly dressed people (like zebras and lions!). Tutte Bianche does the same thing. So how can Black Bloc be "a horrible ideology"?
If anyone actually reads the story one person from the the ACC confronted one videographer from the IMC. The videographer was filming legal consultations, was asked to stop and didn't. Not saying that the kick that he got was the right way to deal with it, but the videographer sounds like an arrogant idiot. Now a small number of people from the ACC (some of them are anarchists, some arent) have asked DC IMC to respect their right not be filmed if they don't want to be. Sounds OK to me.
Anyway, whatever. Get out there and do something instead of attacking anarchists!

The "horrible ideology" quote came from the poster "literacy, a tool". But the part of my response about it being a confrontation between two activists, not between Black Bloc and IMC still stands. You are asking the wrong question when you ask "what have BB got against IMC" because BB is not a coherent organization with an objection to IMC, because people that have BB'ed are actually in the IMC!, because no one person in a BB speaks for the BB!, because the ACC is not THE Black Bloc. et-fucking-cetera.

the bb becomes an ideology when people start defending it as an identity, not a tactic. It becomes an ideology when it becomes a person, not one way among many that people can act.
It becomes an ideology when the bb is always the answer regardlesss of the situation. And the reason for this post is in response to earlier posters- who- instead of arguing with the original writer for his nonsense title that had nothing to do with the content of the article that they refer to defend the bb. this smells reactionary to me.
