Over 140 Killed in Latest U.S. Afghan Raids

While the corporate press remains silent on casualty figures for the Afghani people... our "smart bombs" ARE taking lives.

Over 140 Killed in Latest U.S. Afghan Raids -AIP

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Over 140 people have been killed as a result of U.S. raids on Afghanistan in the last 24 hours -- including dozens in one strike on a village near Jalalabad, the Afghan Islamic Press reported on Thursday.

Citing Taliban sources, AIP said Kouram village, around 20 miles from the eastern city of Jalalabad had been flattened in Wednesday night's attack and 50 bodies had already been pulled from the rubble. ``So far more than 50 bodies have been recovered and the fear is that the number of martyrs will be more than 100,'' it quoted a Taliban spokesman in the area as saying.

Citing various sources, AIP said more than 140 people had been killed in the last 24 hours -- which have included the most intense bombardments since the attacks started on Sunday night. Adding Wednesday's toll, this would put the total number of deaths since Sunday at around 220.

No one ever said there wouldn't be deaths

All we said is that we would not target civilian populations.

Clearly, that is the case. If our B-52's were targeting civilian populations, the death toll would be in the thousands.

In fact, the Taliban has probably executed more of its citizens for adultery this year than have died from our bombs.

Figures not unique to alternative media

The casualty figures provided here have in fact been widely reported by the "corporate media," a fact which contradicts the introductory comment: While the corporate press remains silent on casualty figures for the Afghani people... our "smart bombs" ARE taking lives.

for more accurate information . . .

For more detailed information on civilian casualties please refer to the Kabul IMC site. Otherwise use your best judgement, take into consideration war time propoganda, and read between the lines of those corporate media reports (who also have no reporters on the ground).

two questions?

by Ghandi Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at 10:40 AM

If it is wrong to kill innocent Americans in a terrorist attack why is it OK to kill innocent Afghanis in retribution?

Last I looked, Reuters is as corporate a news source as any other. How can we at once site the corporate media and also claim they are ignoring the story?
