What does this mean?

by PeeZo Tuesday, Oct. 09, 2001 at 1:15 AM

Are you saying that technology and news gathering is a bad thing and technology corrupts factual presentations of the newsworty events on the planet?

Does this mean that I should stop paying attention to Indymedia satellite?

Big Brother News

1984@hell.com

I you had been there you would have seen the news vans of various local television news stations not only flying the U.S. Flag... but one van (can't remember the station), actually had the U.S. Flag PAINTED on both sides of the van. Yes... I understand the feelings many have about wanting to be Patriotic, but we are talking about the Press here, an institution that is supposed to be INDEPENDENT and outside the control of the Government. In the not so distant past, Americans used to mock the "media" in the Soviet Union as being totally controlled (which it was). How does the U.S. press now differ? They take the press releases from the State Department and pass them on to you. THAT is not journalism... it is PROPAGANDA.

general comment on the meaning of photographs

by general Tuesday, Oct. 09, 2001 at 3:23 AM

In general I don't think any photo speaks for itself, it is the person who frames it and the reader who contribute meaning. What does the photograph mean? Whatever the heck you want it to mean. If you choose to read it according to the demands of your previous brainwashing who am I to convince you differently? Read the photo anyway you want, talk to others about it if you want to deepen your understanding. If you already know all there is to know then just close your eyes and go to sleep . . .
