Marc Cooper has a great deal of influence and power on the left, and for some time, he used it to shore up the position of the Pacifica Board, which has proven itself to be more concerned with being DC insiders than political progressives for activist media. This has caused many longtime activists severe grief, and has led to the rapid depoliticization of Pacifica programming. In other words, Marc Cooper has made enemies, and he probably deserves them.

Now, if he were on the up-and-up, his reputation wouldn't be tarnished by incidents like this. But, he's the one screwing up. He's the one claiming to not post anonymously, but it looks like he's posting mean messages anonymously.

You can check it yourself. The browser information is visible when you "view source". Probabalistically speaking, the odds excellent that Cooper's posts are from the same machine as Anon's.

Remember, when you sling shit, everyone ends up stinking.

I'm watching this dialogue and I find myself asking - why would anyone feel a need to defend Marc Cooper? After all we need only listen or read the man (when he is correctly identified) to understand that he is way more arrogant than we typically allow on the left (arrogance being a charachteristic we associate with teh right). His contributions to leftist rhetoric are minimal. I wouldn't promote his apparent 'success' as the equivelent of legitmacy either, after all the NYT is successful but we don't care to read that shit either.

As for why anyone would want to critique Marc, well that should be evident. I don't imagine one person would have to masqarade as different personalities to make that point - all the otehr people standing in line would get too impatient.

The best that can be come up with as strategy for his defense is that he is successful in his media and that he is neither falwell or robertson. Well, let me fill you all in. Cooper may not be falwell or robertson but he is rather and jensen. how tired i am of hearing talk on all the same old topics from cooper that is broadcast ad nauseum on the corporate media. Cooper is so mainstream on his topic selection even if he is a little left in his rhetoric (though not that left). It just seems as if he were striving to make his own personal mark in the news commentator industry. He wants to gain award, win accolades from his peers even if it must be gained by shunning real news in favor of mirroring the repetitious topications of corporate media punditry.
