Re: Added security
The Bio 2001 Conference is scheduled at the San Diego Convention Center June 24-27 where approximately 15,000 attendees are expected.
The San Diego Police Department has informed us that there is the potential for 4,000-5,000 plant and animal research protestors to also be in attendance, and that there may be demonstrations at or attempted vandalization of facilities where animal research is being conducted.
BEGINNING FRIDAY EVENING, JUNE 22, ADDITIONAL SECURITY MEASURES WILL BE PUT IN PLACE EFFECTIVE 24 HOURS A DAY.
From June 22-26, the Salk will also be hosting a Cell Cycle meeting in the East Building meeting center where approximately 200 attendees are expected.
Beginning the evening of Friday, June 22 and continuing until after June 27, ALL EXTERIOR GATES TO THE INSTITUTE WILL BE CONTINUALLY LOCKED AND ONLY PEOPLE WITH SALK INSTITUTE BADGES OR CELL CYCLE NAME TAGS WILL BE ALLOWED INSIDE THE INSTITUTE BUILDINGS. Institute tours will be suspended During this time and no visitors will be allowed on site.
Please remember that you should have your Salk badges with you at all times. When entering the Institute, you should also be aware of anyone entering with them; it's appropriate that they ask for a Salk badge or Cell Cycle name tag. Reports of unauthorized entrance or anything unusual should immediately be referred to [number witheld]
