The Revolution Needs Your Support

by The Mobiustrip Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001 at 5:03 PM

A call to aid on behalf of The Revolution Party

The Revolution

Brothers and sisters, I am writing to you today on behalf of The Revolution. The Revolution is a broad-based, non-ideological, anti-authoritarian political party/organization, founded by cyberculture icon R.U. Sirius in 1998.

Our wish, essentially, is to provide a voice to counter-culturalists, sub-culturalists, civil libertarians, alt-culturalists, environmentalists, and anti-corporate activists who have been somewhat disenfranchised by the electoral process, or who perhaps find The Libertarian and Green parties a bit too rigid.

Our long-term goal is to become a sort of antithesis to the Christian Coalition. Where they've successfully politicized (turned into a potent grass-roots voting bloc) millions of right-wing conservatives, evangelicals, and fundamentalists, pushing pessimism, puritanism and fear, we wish to become catalysts of an avant-populist, libertarian-equalitarian-futurist coalition—a voting bloc powerful enough to scare the shit out of the mainstream and capable of electing our own officials.

We are now in the process of revising our 20 point platform, currently available online in its previous format at http://www.revolting.com. Our request is that you please, examine this platform and if any single point falls within your specific area of interest, please contact us (via revolting23@disinfo.net) with your insights, clarifications, policy ideas, related organizations, web links, or any feelings in general that you may have on the subject. We are also looking for additional points we may have overlooked. Your help is needed. We wish to have a platform that truly recognizes the positions of people like yourselves, and your input is vitally important, as is your support.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to hear from you soon.

Shocked!!

Typically, I find the denizens of this page to be well intentioned, but misguided.

I fully expected more of that when I reviewed your 20 point platform.

I was, however, surprised by the number of points with which I agreed. Others, I shared the concern, but disagreed with the suggested remedy.

Others, of course, I thought were just plain stupid. That's the way it goes! (That doesn't mean I think you're stupid. At least not yet anyway.)

One of the more interesting points is the idea of repealing twice as many laws as are passed. The Star Ledger (of Newark, New Jersey), recently did a fascinating series of articles on the number of pieces of legislation proposed and passed every year -- its is mind boggling.

Sadly, the volume of legislation chokes off consideration and deliberation. Most legislators NEVER read the bills they pass! Its scary to think you might go to jail over a law which was supposedly duly enacted by the democratically representatives -- when in fact most didn't even know they signed it.

Great book I would recommend to anyone who found the points in this platform appealing. Its by James Bovard and is alled "Freedom In Chains -- The Rise of the State and the Decline of the American Citizen."

Bovard is a Conservative -- but in the strict sense of the term (ie. limit government power to increase individual liberty.) He is NOT some Bible thumping gay basher.

Revolution -- however, I think is a very, very bad idea. Fight the battle of ideas first. When you've won that, and still nothing has changed THEN you can talk about revolution.

I hate to be the one to break it too you, and don't shoot the messenger, but you have NOT won the battle of ideas yet. Frankly, I think your current platform is flawed and will never win it. But you may be on to something yet.

Adios.
