I'm really astonished to read all this stuff, I checked out the aimmovement too. Being a whitey anarchist, I was pretty taken in by what Ward had to say at the recent decolonization conference, but now I'm starting to question his relation to the Indian movement. I still agree with a lot of what he had to say, and am aware that any potential revolutionaries within a movement WILL be discredited by a dominant elite, but I think it's time that Churchill comes forward to defend himself.

I have been in contact and friends with most of the Grand Council for over 12 years. In that time I have also had occasion to be in the acquaintance of the illustrious Mr. Churchill as well as Mr. Means. I have found the Grand Council to be the most dedicated people I have ever met in my life. None of them have ever done cartoons for Disney, supported the Contras, pretended to be people they are not, or been in a position to proffit off of their actual sacrifices at Wounded Knee, Alcatraz, the Longest Walk, Jumping Bull Ranch, or any other of the events for which they have been incarerated for. Mr. Churchill has never been arrested or been a fugitive from the US government for 15 years as Mr. Banks was.

You are talking purely from the gut of your inexperience. While Russ Means was making Pochahantas and announcing plans to open a liquor store on the border of Pine Ridge these elders were working on issues.Ward Churchill is on video admittin almost everything that has been posted about him in recent days. I doubt you have bothered to travel to Leech Lake Mn. reservation (yes Mr Banks lives on a reservation unlike the Boulderite Mr Churchill or Mr. Means who lives in Santa Fe NM) to see the work he does everyday to assist Native people in building stronger lives. Whether you like it or not there is a reason Ward Churchill belongs to something called the ICOACAIM (International Confederation OF The Autonomous Chapters of the American Indian Movement) and it is because he has nothing to do with the American Indian Movement (AIM). The founders who are all still part of the GGC (Grand Governing Council) today (those still alive). AIM accepted Russ Means resignation in 1985 and everyone since. Do some research Means stated in the Eldorado Sun this past July that he "was no longer part of AIM". Call them and ask???? YOU MAT BE AND ARE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the Eldorado Sun interview Means bragged about "fighting the Sandanistas". Check it out. Before you run your mouth please check it out. The defense of course from Means and Churchill is that they were defending Indians. Sir 99% of the Nicaraguan people are of indigenous descent the Sandanistas were fighting against 150 years of genocide against all of the people not just some.
