Attacks on civilians
Amnesty International condemned the indiscriminate killing of at least 12 civilians during an attack allegedly carried out by members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Colombo, Sri Lanka in March.
"Both the security forces and the LTTE must respect the lives of civilians," Amnesty said.
The civilians were killed when four LTTE guerillas armed with rocket-propelled grenades shot indiscriminately through busy traffic.
The guerillas were fleeing after a thawarted attack on an official returning from Parliament.
Earlier this year, AI deplored the reported LTTE bombing of the main post office in Vavuniya, northern Sri Lanka. Atleast 11 people died and MORE THAN 70 WERE INJURED IN THE JANUARY ATTACK.[Emphasis editor]
