The photographs below were taken after the unlawful crowd had been cleared from the demonstration site outside of the Staples Center on Monday, August 14, 2000. Graffiti, fire damage and debris littered the demonstration site. An agitated crowd of approximately 3500 demonstrators began destroying property, setting fires and throwing projectiles at LAPD Officers. After ignoring repeated orders to disperse, officers deployed to clear the demonstration site. Protesters uprooted metal signposts with concrete bases, sprinkler pipes and concrete parking bumpers. These bumpers were broken-up into smaller six and seven inch chunks, which were then used as projectiles against officers. Spray cans used to graffiti the area were also thrown once emptied. Plastic and glass bottles filled with unknown caustic chemicals and urine were thrown as well. Officers responded with calculated restraint, which required the deployment of less than lethal devices
...and where's the photos, brain trust?
must be doughnut break.
WHY DO YOU GUYS LET THE PIGS SPREAD THEIR GARBAGE ON YOUR WEBSITE ?
WHY DO YOU GUYS LET THE PIGS SPREAD THEIR GARBAGE ON YOUR WEBSITE ?
Lighten up FUCK THE PIGS -- you too ch@nce -- the LAPD photos follow the text message in separate posts.
The LAPD propaganda attempting to justify the Staples police riot should not be suppressed -- it's so absurd on its face it should have as wide an airing as possible. Chief Parks statement, which I posted here, along with the LAPD stills show in their own words how the LAPD's violent reaction was based not on the flimsy evidence they produced, but on their irrational fear and hatred of what the protesters stood for. Parks first claims he's there to protect First Amendment rights, then goes on to blow his cover of impartiality by attacking the protesters causes, their music, their style of dress. Only an organization like the LAPD that is so isolated from the public and has retreated into it's own decaying self would put out the kind of embarassing information they posted to their website. All of the current problems of the LAPD have been brought on by their own stupid and unprofessional actions, and third rate leadership and nothing better illustrates that than the pathetic press materials they put out to try to convince the public they're not criminals.
The pathetic damage control by Parks & The Pigs is hanging them. When your enemies hang themselves, you do not try to stop them.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH LETTING YOUR "ENEMIES" HANG THEMSELVES ON THEIR own WEBSITE AND NOT SUCK RESOURCES FROM THE IMC ? DUH
On one side: numerous independent testimonies, photographs, video, and medical reports.
The other: police testimony and non-existent photographs.
We know what happened. The word is spreading. Too late for damage control!
I know! Let's play a game! How about "guess how many city officials will resign before this is over!"
It sure is good to know that the LAPD (Los Angeles Paramilitary Department) is out protecting the public against anarchists. Hopefully they won't let that Noam Chomsky guy into town again, and maybe when they get a chance they'll recomend that all LA libraries burn any books by Emma Goldman or Bertrand Russell. And, oh yeah, maybe they'll crack down on the anarchist student groups which will be sprouting up all over. We can't have people thinking like that now, can we?
Keep up the good work LAPD!
First i will apolgize for my poor grammer and punctuation.
I took the metro to the dnc from compton. watching the blurs from the window turning from city streets to 100s of riot cops. Which every one expected. But know one had expected so many angry ones. If you werent repressed already you were when you stepped on to train platform. To be greeted by battons pointing you to the protest area. The air was thick with anxt. There were only 2 ways in and out no security. I felt as if we were cattle. You could see snipers on the roof of the Staples building. It was intence watching the convention goers staring at us curiosly from the patio and protesters staring at them with digust.I was very proud to be there that day. Proud of the people who are tired of being sick and tired. As for the police they must have a selective memory as most of our politicians do.
I was invited to attend the convention. I gracefully declined.
