I think most veteran activists are familiar with the 1968 protests. In fact, when I was thrown into jail after the 1986 Haymarket march against capitalism, some of the guard were recalling fondly how they had bashed heads in back in 1968.
I didn't know about the May Day protests in Washington, DC until some veterans from that one started telling stories. It's a shame that they didn't share their stories earlier, instead of waiting until an event like A16 shook those memories loose.
It's important for older activists to share their history with the younger generation. This has to be done in a friendly fashion. Too often the tone is patronizing or devaluing of the younger activists experiences. We can always learn from each other.
