I agree that cnn and the rest of corporate media are biased towards the protests. Claiming that innocent people are being hurt is completely false. There is not one report of any innocent bystander being physically assaulted in philadelphia or at any other protest connected with it. There is also no evidence of bombs or any other such tactics. Philadelphia was not a violent protest. About 20-50(at the most) people got out of hand. People must consider that there were over 10,000 people that took part in protests that week. I think that this is a pretty good percentage (less than 1/2 of one percent) at an emotionally charged and tense event.
However, I have seen people on the imc paint too black and white of a picture of what happened. It is not as simple as police-bad, protester-good. There are some protesters that got violent. I saw it. In their defense they were almost always trying to either get away from police or get one of their friends away from police (i.e. fighting back). Even so, this is not non-violent civil disobedience, nvcd means not fighting back. I know this is hard considering everyone has a natural reaction to defend themselves. Those who did or even assaulted police are wrong and guilty. Although I do support their actions, how can I demand their release from jail.
Back on the subject of bias, when writing to the media or posting here. Do not show bias in support of the protesters, it undermines valid points we make, it does not emphasize our issues to overstate or exaggerate.
MY ADVICE TO LA
BE NON-VIOLENT AND MAKE SURE YOU COMMUNICATE YOUR MESSAGE TO EVERYONE YOU SEE.
