What a great picture! At first glance it's just another generic picture. Then you see the mega-ralph in there, and the crowd of greens with the thousands of eclectic groups aligned with them. All of these forces, with the faces of decades of rebellion and progressive thinking over them on that damned Apple add... All being held back by a mear fence and a lone cop.
I see this, and all I can think is 'they dam cannot hold'
It's surprising to see a shot of us from the other side of the fence. How is it possible that the delegates and media rep's could look out at this view and say that they don't know what our issues are and then have the nerve to say that there is no party to represent our issues. They say we're not organized. Then what exactly happened in Seattle and Washington and Philly and LA? Not organized? That's a load of horse feathers!!! We went up to that fence at 4:30 on Thursday, with our shiny new bull horn and spoke out about our discust that Ralph Nader is being excluded from the debates. We were determined to have our voices heard. We passed that bull horn around and let others speak to their issues. Now we're ganna write our Op-Eds to the irresponsible newspapers that don't have the balls to write the real news, what matters to people. Instead they choose to sensationalize the protests with coverage of a couple violent outbreaks instigated by the police.
We stood out there and said "We're fenced-in and locked-out of our democratic processes!" We're feeling really frustrated with the mainstream media. Suppose that's why we have you "Indy" Thanks for being there for us and with us. Thanks for being us. Does anyone out there have an issue they would like to speak to? Please write letters to your local papers and let them know. We must keep this momentum up. In unity, Shari and Mike (the puppeteer)
What an incredible photograph! Words are hardly needed. And above it all the “Think different” slogan - that which the Nader campaign promises but which here is also just a Madison Avenue corporate slogan (even though I love my Mac!). Slogans are the highest level of thinking (if that!) that we’re likely to see from the mass media in this campaign. But note the other subtle message: They’ve got the guns, but we’ve got the numbers.
