People's Economic Direct Action...

by Hellz Bellz Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 at 11:36 AM

An Idea for the Movement & all of Society towards Directly Dismantling the Capitalist Machine Right Now...

Hey All, I’ve Got a Neat Idea that May Be Effective as a Prague Solidarity Action, or Even a Separate Call to Action Itself:

SEPTEMBER 26, 2000/TBA: "LIQUIDATE/CLOSE ALL YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS!"

While I was thinking about the DC & Prague World Bank/IMF Protests, I began to wonder why I needed a Bank Account at all in my life. Naturally, Checking accounts are convenient ways to pay something; Savings accounts (supposedly) provide interest while you safely have your money locked away-—but are there larger hidden evils underneath our desire for Convenience?

IF SOMEONE IS KNOWLEDGEABLE ON THESE SUBJECTS, PLEASE CORRECT MY ESTIMATIONS

1) Banks are businesses, and exist to make Profits—pure & simple! Their Capitalist philosophy has led to groups like Citibank, which has a terrible track-record regarding

economic/social/environmental violations

2) SuperBanks’ funds (probably some more than others) are supported & therefore cater to the rich. Just like the Stock Market, the wealthiest 1% owns 51%, next 9% owns 37%, then remaining 90% divvies up the 12% amongst ourselves

3) Banks have no conscience/accountability for financing destructive projects, a la World Bank

Please, if someone has more facts either way, please respond & inform me why, if at all, we need banks to begin with! If my hunch is correct, I’d love to suggest this call of Action to Major Organizations for activists to rally around, and be a social step toward dismantling our capitalist system (imagine the joy of watching the Stock Report that Day & seeing investors panic their little butts off)

you're on the right track

Not only don't we need banks, we don't need money!

But as long as there's money, there will be banks... the whole money economy is based on hoarding, hoarding is the means by which the money economy was invented (see Marx's GRUNDRISSE for more on how this happened), and what better institution to hoard money than banks?

Overthrow the banks! Abolish money!

Well...

In the meantime, put your money in a credit union. That's a non-profit bank, a kind of (not necessarily very cooperative) cooperative.

big banks are evil!!!

i pulled my $ out of wells fargo after getting screwed for the umpteenth time and decided i HAD ENOUGH!!!! the final straw was when my car broke down and my parents put a deposit of CASH in my account, and it took FIVE damn days for the damn bastards to credit it to my account. in the meanwhile, i was carless for an uneecessary extra amount of time, because i couldn't pay the mechanic to get my car back!

i got sick of being treated like a criminal such as having to give a thumbprint to cash a check (b of a and washington mutual do that trick also!)

with credit unions that participate in co-op banking systems yiu are not charged for withdrawling your own money...even if you are out of state!!!

in san francisco alone b of a & wells fargo own 95% of the atms!!!!! in the good old days, banking corporations were confined to ONE STATE, so that meant there could be little personalized bank that would serve some small state like rhode island, or wyoming exclusively. but once mega banks were allowed to invade any state they saw fit, that was the end of decent service, and not being gouged.

support the small businesses, they are little people like us who just try to survive. they are just as leary of big predatory monopolistic corporations like the rest of us. main street does not like wall street either!!

Abolish silly white punks instead of money!

So if we abolish money, how does one buy, say, a hamburger?

Barter of goods and services is the only alternative to money.

That is to say, if I want a Big Mac, I either must trade something for the Big Mac, or offer my services for a Big Mac.

I have a better idea, lets abolish all of the rich spoiled white brats who come up with these stupid ideas.

God bless the LAPD!!!!!!

Abolish BigMacs!

by steve Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000 at 7:58 AM

Let's abolish BigMacs and that way we won't have to fight over wether or not we need money to buy them. Likewise we'll save some rainforest (which the McCoporation eradicates to grazed low grade cattle on) and we could also stop prodcing those "recycleable" or "recycled" containers BigMac's come in and eliminate some waste from the land fills. Think about it, doing away with Big Mac's could solve all our problems. Come ON! Real discussions please! The futures here and their pissed!
