An idea to address Corporate Media & our next Mobilization...
I see so much dissent & resistance against the media (which I agree with), how about this for our next National Convergence: "Shut Down the Mainstream Media!" 1) We could choose some major network in some major city, on our OWN date. 2) We could then expose the Corporate Media's Fascism through adjacent Teach-Ins 3) We bring our own Media & further legitimize their validity 4) We could participate in Direct Action to Shut It Down
Even more sly tactics- 1) We infiltrate the mainstream media, corporations (even spread rumours of hearing how the police forces have been infiltrated!) 2) We pit corporations against themselves (you can bet if 1 Media mogul is attacked, the other will lick their lips over the weaker competition.
Thoughts anyone?

If you want to take on the media, come to San Francisco in September. The National Assoc. of Broadcasters is having their national meeting and we are going to show up to demand that a democtratization of our media systems!

A lot of us are willing to do more. I uprooted myself in Berkeley to go to D.C. for A16. Then, I was invited by the Philadelphia Direct Action Group to be part of the logistics committee, and later, the jail support office. I am now once again available to do more. I have been contacting people in the NYC and Boston areas...I told them that it's simple...offer me a base, and I'll participate. I'm certain that I represent many others, who do not wish to be inactive presently. If anybody wants my involvement in the future, then give me a base to work from. I'm waiting...

It's time to take a break from the "protest" of the month club. This strategy has been taken far enough, and is now headed for decline. Most people cannot afford to travel the US from protest to protest. We're in danger of creating a protestor-elite class.
Besides, we need to gather steam and build strength in numbers and in our own personal incomes. It's time to take the battle to the workplace and to our communities. Organize your own life, then organize your neighborhood.
If we get jobs at corporations that are doing things we abhor, and then fight for better wages, that means less profit for corporation and more money under we, the working class, control. Then we dissolve the image of the working class (picture a steelworker) and wake up to the fact that the working class is all/most of us.
It's time to stop fighting ON BEHALF of "the working class", and begin fighting AS the working class.

In Our System (and it is Our System) to demand anything you have to have something to offer in return. What do you have?
The People? How many times have we heard that before. We think not. Your cheap idiotic street theatrics...Yawn. We think not. Direct action (whatever that meets) or violent revolution? We are soooo scared! Monday's rubber bullets are just a taste of whats in store for you-- or for any other loser freak who gets too uppity. In other words punks, you lose.
May we suggest to you to comply peacefully to what we say... or do we actually have to dispatch you to your makers.
Suggestions as to other strategies you weak minded rubbish may happen to have to defeat us are cheerfully accepted. (Why pay for something when we can get it for free).
So punks the question we leave you with is this, is this a parody or are we for real? Well punks... are we?

I think to keep the pressure on it should be repeated. And often. We cannot win the public without first conquering the media.
Good resources are www.fair.org and the Project Censored for when we need ammunition.
It cannot be a single issue attack (such as ABC's Organic food story) since we wont have time to mobilize.
The other issue to watch for is that corporate hq does not necessarily mean the news for that company.
I think the best symbol (oand one whose foreign journalism makes me ill, but its still the industry stadad) is CNN. Everyone knows they are based in Atlanta. CNN is now global allowing this to be not just a US issue.
As I said CNN sets the standard by which others judge themselves and they pretend to be professional. I was enraged when their Cold War documentary skipped over Irn-Contra and the Guatemalan genocide agaist the Mayans. I was enfuriated that no one spoke up about how CNN's journalist covering the Kosovo war, Ms. Amanpour was married to the spokesman for the Penagon, james Rubin. etc etc.
So due to its global respect and the fact that the corporation is all news and nothing but, I say CNN Atlanta.
I only fear NAB isnt getting the attention to draw enough people. I only hear about it too recently to consider going...

If the police have unofficially declared war they might rethink that. they are out numbered and should be thankfull that those people who are staying home and keeping thier powder dry haven't lost faith in the system. live by sword die by the sward. I'd rather use a pen its stronger.

whoever wrote that piece about having to have something in return, i've got something for them. i those facsist assholes better be as scared of me as i often am of them cause i've never been a pacifist. the violence of the oppressed will never be equal to that of the oppressors. that is to say even if we get violent we'll still be on the just side of the issue. to you "your masters" i have one question: why is it that some people fight for their servitude as if it was their salvation? wake up pawn-realize your getting the shaft too.

If protests and activism are so useless, why do the wealthy spend so much time and money ensuring that government agents and public relations agencies and the most elite corporate media constantly work to stop such action, lie about it, and to represent it as undesirable?
We have to pay attention to what the people at the top do.
None of them seem to be convinced that they can just sit back and let the inevitable forces of the market and the government keep the poor and their allies down.
No, in fact, they and their hired help work very, very hard at it. That's a lesson in itself. Maybe they'll win, who knows. But they don't think it's inevitable, so why should the decent people conclude that?

yes! come out to protest the NAB - it could be that this is the answer to "What next?" for the movement.. it appears to me that this is our opportunity to raise our voices against those keeping the airwaves out of the hands of the public!
the protest is going to be held at the convention september 20-23 at the Moscone Center in San Fran - 747 Howard Street Bring your voice, your microradio transmitters and your spirit!
we need to fight the mainstream media - we need to take over television, we need to take over radio- we need to be sure that things like false bomb threats dont happen to alternative media (The Shadow Convention at the DNC, right)! places like indy media are what we need to support - mainstream media becomes nervous when truth is provided for the people - but we can make a difference - speak up! shout out! get involved! this IS our "WHAT NEXT?" blessings to you all for being so brave to stand firm! peace

Dear Cop,
I guarantee you that you will be the first target when we get armed. We are not afraid of you. You may have the upperhand of state force at the moment, but that will change as more people decide that enough is enough. You are a little pawn in a game you probably don't understand. Just like the Nazi soldiers were pawns of Hitler and the SS, the LAPD are pawns of the rich whose parties and celebrations you will never be welcomed at. Your the equivalent of a guard dog who is given some meat and told to go run and play outside while the real masters are in control of your entire life. And like the SS, you will lose. It's your choice pig; if you stay a member of a fascist regime, then my crosshairs are on your forehead.

i am not the guy from before, but I just had to say that you are so predictible and boring. You seem like one of those kids that i went to high school with that everyone made fun of and believed a little too much in Dungeons and Dragons. What you guys are doing is playing a game that you are bound to lose. But remember, it is simply a game. Your numbers will never overpower that of anything. Right now, you are about 1% of the population. .5% of the voting population. But, if you get out and actually vote, you can change something...maybe. But of course, this capitalist machine will be sure that you vote is not heard because you have hardcore proof that they fix everything...oh wait, you have no proof. You just complain that the world is not fair. Well, look who joined the party. Life's not fair. Never will be, and acting like a child will never solve anything. So to both sides, grow up. If you ant to be treated as a person, then treat others as people. BOth sides need to learn this. Maybe if you spoke instead of yelled. Maybe if you understood both sides of the story, you could effectivley argue it. Maybe you could even use real facts.

One reason people in East Germany and in Prague were able to quickly overthrow their unpopular authoritarian states a few years ago was that they marched on the Big Media studios which denied people in those countries their free speech rights and seemed to lie about the degree to which the police were involved in suppressing popular dissent. If thousands of anti-corporate Movement people eventually gather outside the Corporate Media studios in a more assertive way, it's actually possible, I think that the Forgotten Majority in the United States will be able to make a Revolution in the United States quite soon. If you've seen the Wizard of Oz, you probably realize that just because a few people are behind the Big Screen and amplifying their minority mind-set by means of censorship of more popular alternatives and use of corporate money, doesn't mean they are "all-powerful" like the Wizard of Oz was supposed to be. Also, if you've read The Emperor's New Clothing, you probably realize that we actually can make a Revolution in the United States if we focus in on eventually liberating through mass direct action the public airwaves which the Corporate vultures presently operate in an undemocratic and unethical way.

Well, if you knew anything about how the Los Angeles Independent Media Center came together, if they would disclose their financing to the public, you would know that the rich funded this project, that the 'non' leadership only went to the standard philanthropic organizations of the rich, that they repeatedly put out calls for anyone on the listservs to get donations from their rich friends. Make no mistake, unlike people around the world who have started websites & microradio projects on their own, cobbling together end user products (from rich corporations, of course) & using them to new ends that the corporate marketing & development teams couldn't even dream of, the Los Angeles Independent Media Center, in the middle of one of the leading media production cities in the world, had to have top of the line corporate digital products to pull this off & they are so elitist, as is FSTV, that the broadcasts aren't backwards compatible (don't work with earlier & older versions of software) & they are all only in Real media formats, not across platforms & formats to really reach the people. Of course, how responsible is it to encourage the people to subscribe and pay $40 per month to receive corporate media by satellite just to fund your project?

Responses to dorky cop posts are just what they want. Just ignore them. The want you to reply with all the "fuck you's" you can dish out. With a post like "master" or whatever, it's just such an obvious bait. Just don't respond, anyone can see how stupid it is. I mean, its probably just some snotty kid or some security gaurd that couldn't get a jon with the police. Just ignore the OBVIOUS BS. Put your energy into something more constructive, like happiness.

Yes, I would LOVE to go to SAnFran and shut down the NAB, but I just found out about this today (way too short notice for an East-Coaster) Sarin, you mentioned CNN in Atlanta; are there any dates in let's say in about 6 months that would coincide with city events, as a bolster to a possible Mobilization?
