This belongs in CORPORATE MEDIA

by jdzevin Friday, Aug. 18, 2000 at 4:34 PM

Can the Village Voice people PLEASE post this stuff to the Corporate News rather than the newswire. I grew up in NY, reading the Voice. I'm sympathetic to the paper, but this simply doesn't belong on the newswire, particularly not with a tagline that essentially constitutes advertising.

Indymedia is NOT a vehicle for generating pagehits to your paper, it is a non-corporate news medium in and of itself.

Other Indy Media sites WANT links to articles

by eco Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000 at 12:17 AM

I am not an employee nor do I live in New York, nor do I have any vested interest in the Village Voice.

But I welcome ANY news about D2K protests. Many of us have worked for years to get the corporate media to pay more attention to our issues. Other Indy Media websites have lots of links submitted for articles by the commercial media, and we readers welcome it.

The tone of your writing could easily help ruin some of many people's efforts to get more news coverage. And it is a little holier-than-thou to say that non-profit coverage is better than for-profit coverage.

And if someone wants to encourage others to read their for-profit or not-for-profit websites, then more power to them. It is NOT paid advertising, so it doesn't hurt Indy Media's non-profit status, nor does it hurt Indy Media's fair use rights to post copyrighted articles.
