Rage should use footage from monday night for their next video. maybe then we will get the word out that the police in this country are trying to turn america into a fascist state.

What is the net worth of each member of the band "Rage Against The Machine"? Are they millionaires? do they work for, or distribute through, a corporation? If they are millionaires and sell their "product" through corporate distribution channels, then are they not "rich capitalists"? If they are rich capitalists, then shouldn't we expose them for this hipocrisy? Just curious.

people seem to believe that it's easy to make millions of dollars in the music business. it is if you're the people who own the record companies or the one who holds the patent on CD technology. many bands achieve "superstardom" and are still broke. david bowie was actually in debt to his record company for the twenty years he was most popular.
i'm still undecided about whether to call them hypocrites, since i don't know how much money they make and what they do with it all. i'm pretty sure at least some of their money goes to various radical and left organizations.
but i do know that their message seems genuine, that they have said that they had to choose between getting the message out or remaining in obscurity preaching to the converted (and decided major labels were a necessary evil), that guitarist tom morello has been arrested for civil disobedience, that zach de la rocha was marching with the black bloc in DC, and that with one of their video shoots they apparently set out upon the task of shutting down the new york stock exchange for the day.
regardless of whether or not they are hypocrites, anyway, their music has politicized a lot of people, which will always be more important than abstract intellectual and moral posturing by their detractors. i was particularly impressed by a tv special on one of their concerts in mexico city, in which concert footage was framed by zach glorifying the zapatistas. let's be honest: that's the only way most eMpTyV kids are going to find about things like that.
i personally think we need more bands like rage. i just pray it never becomes a trend.

Just because you work for a large corporation does not mean you are a capitalist. Quite the opposite in fact. Its called being working class, or skilled-working class to be more precise.
Oh yeah, and like Lenin said, "the capitalist will sell you a rope to hang him with"

I would have to agree that it is fallacious reasoning to contend that just because you make money and have power, you are a hypocrite for trying to bring attention to others who have power and money. I do not think that the issue of money is at the core, here. Rather, it is the attitude that people are just another resource to be exploited by Mother Culture (cf. Daniel Quinn, "Ishmael") to fatten the bottom line.
Much coin was garnered by the Grateful Dead, but they earned it. They were the proletariat out on stage sweating their a-ses off. And, they did a lot of social good with their earnings. (SEVA, Cultural Survival, etc.)
A group of people with power/money have the choice on how to use it. I believe that this choice determines whether one is a capitalist pig, or not.
In addition to power/money RAGE also has the Power of the Media. I came to ratm.com because O-Zone, WAAF in Boston, said RAGE would be playing the DNC, whether the LAPD(ogs) liked it or not. The media channels from which I was receiving my news was woefully inadequate. I have found a great fount of info and outrage in the links from ratm.com (indymedia; www.alternet.org; etc.)
This POWER of the Media that RAGE is using is vital if we are to evolve past fighting in the streets. Seattle was nice, but we need to build, grow and coalesce into something more effective. We can work as a unit, or be a Volvox.
So, cooldiscodan, focus on what is happening, don't try to undermine a vital thing, unless, of course you're a republicrat fan of GUSH and BORE. RAGE are not hypocrites. Quite the contrary, are using their "POWER of the MEDIA" to OPEN MINDS and DRAW ATTENTION to those who are overlooked.
Remember, if you aren't outRAGEd, YOU ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION.

The new RATM video Testify actually does contain some footage from the event. It's true RATM's members have money, but they donate to charity, use their resources to spread a message, and are active in protests themselves. Zack has been to Chiapas, Mexico several times to help support the Zapatista movement. Tom has been arrested for protesting the Gap. Rage is one of the few bands that stands for something.

Rage is a very smart well educated band. Yes they work for record companies, but the record companies also work for them. they promote the band on a large scale which includes lyrics criticizing the system. I HOPE it becomes a trend. that way everyone will understand that the system doesnt work and there are better ways to represent people than to oppress them.
