Laguna Day Labor Center Ordered Closed

by Gunny Sunday, Jul. 02, 2006 at 9:48 AM

Minuteman tip to Cal Trans leads to its closure

The Laguna Beach Day Labor Center has been the object of numerous demonstrations over the last two years. That might be comming to an end. The California Department of Transportation has ordered that the Laguna Beach Day Labor Center immediatly vacate the premises or face forced eviction.

When the Laguna Beach City Council originally authorized the consruction of the Day Labor Center Several Years ago, they neglected to check to see who actually owned the property.

The story is set to be in Tommorrows LA times

An unnamed member of the Minuteman Project checked the County records and found that the property generously donated by the City of laguna Beach was actually owned by the California Department of Transportation. State law prohibits Cal Trans property to be used for anything except infrastructure support. Cal Trans may soon iniatiate eviction procedings.

OC poll about day labor center

by V Monday, Jul. 03, 2006 at 7:41 PM

Should the Laguna Beach day-labor center, recently discovered to be on state land, be closed?

Thank God we don't run the country with online polls

by Gunny Monday, Jul. 03, 2006 at 8:10 PM

If Online polls were at all tied to reality. Dennis Kucinich would be President and 99% of the Senate would be Green party members. I voted four times in that one, had to modify my browser settings but no problem at all. Liberal democracy at it's finest

Yes, the MM/SOS did fail this time. Infact I can't immediately think of any action like this they've done that had much of an impact. Their Hollywood march hardly did squat for them. Besides getting somewhat noticed on the news. Big deal. They try to reach out and get more participants, but it's hardly working. Hmmmm. Maybe because people want to avoid that sitgma? If I was holding a public office, I know I'd have reason to avoid that. I dunno what Allan Mansoor is thinking though.
