Media activists:
Please attend our next general meeting - Saturday August 3 @ 5 pm
As our mission states, "The Independent Media Center is a grassroots organization committed to using media production as a tool for promoting economic and social justice. It is our goal to give voice to those people under-represented in the mainstream media. We intend to illuminate and analyze local and global issues that are effected by the increasing corporate domination of American society and the subsequent erosion of democracy. We seek to generate alternatives to the current biases in the corporate media and contribute to a just and equitable and sustainable society."
We are working as a collective to accomplish this mission in a variety of ways. As you probably know, our website www.la.indymedia.org is the central venue for our efforts, but we've spent the last year expanding into other forms of media, including a webcast radio show, Radio IMC-LA and the Community Voices Project which airs three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4-6 pm pst) on and in conjunction with Kill Radio (www.killradio.org). Beginning soon, the Video collective
will begin producing a 1/2 hour a week show on cable access. In addition, we continue to spend time in the community covering
progressive events and news.
So, as you see, there are many opportunities for involvement. If you'd like to meet and join us in our efforts, we'd love to have you.
We meet the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at 5:00 pm at
our office - 2007 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 909. That's at the corner of Wilshire and Westlake near McArthur Park. It's 1/2 block from the
McArthur Park metro station. tel./fax 213] 353-0033.
We look forward to seeing you.
