The film "Gaza Strip" is 74 minutes, and was made in 2002.
In addition to the film, there will be two speakers. Emma Rosenthal is the founder and Executive Director of The Writing Empowerment Project and Executive Producer of ?Caf? Intifada! She is an educator, artist, writer and human rights activist living in Southern California. Emma is also a poet, essayist and short story writer. She is active in the Palestine solidarity movement in L.A., including the groups Women in Black and the L.A. Palestine Labor Solidarity Committee.
Our second speaker is unconfirmed. It may be Garrick Ruiz, who will have recently returned from Palestine, where he was detained by the Israel Occupation Forces for his participation, along with a number of other local and international activists, in a protest against the Apartheid Wall.
"Gaza Strip" is a documentary that was shot during the first months of the most recent Palestinian intifada. The film is an extraordinary and painful journey into the lives of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip struggling with the day-to-day trials of the Israeli occupation. Filmed in verite style and without narration, "Gaza Strip" at last gives voice toa population largely ignored by mainstream media.
The event is organized by the Casa del Pueblo cooperative as part of our weekly film nights.
Co-sponsors include: Women in Black Los Angeles, Cafe Intifada and the Writers' Empowerment Project.
