Fathom Events presents ?Allegiance: The Broadway Musical on the Big Screen? in select cinemas nationwide for a special one-night event on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
Straight from its Broadway run at the Longacre Theatre from October 2015 to February 2016 and inspired by the true-life experience of its star, George Takei (?Star Trek,? ?Heroes?), ?Allegiance? follows one family?s extraordinary journey in this untold American story. Their loyalty was questioned, their freedom taken away, but their spirit could never be broken.
?Allegiance? is the story of the Kimura family, whose lives are upended when they and 120,000 other Japanese Americans are forced to leave their homes following the events of Pearl Harbor. Sam Kimura seeks to prove his patriotism by fighting for his country in the war, but his sister, Kei, fiercely protests the government?s treatment of her people.
An uplifting testament to the power of the human spirit, ?Allegiance? follows the Kimuras as they fight between duty and defiance, custom and change, family bonds and forbidden loves. As long-lost memories are unlocked, Sam finds that it is never too late to forgive and to recognize the redemptive power of love.
Takei, who was incarcerated with his family as a child, stars as Ojii-san and present-day Sam alongside Tony Award winner Lea Salonga (?Miss Saigon,? ?Mulan?) as Kei and actor, singer and songwriter Telly Leung (?Rent,? ?Glee?) as young Sam. All three also starred in the original production in 2012 at The Old Globe in San Diego. The cast also includes Katie Rose Clarke, Michael K. Lee, Christopheren Nomura and Greg Watanabe. Music and lyrics by Jay Kuo; book by Kuo, Marc Acito and Lorenzo Thione; directed by Stafford Arima; choreographed by Andrew Palermo.
In addition to the full musical, the screening will include special behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and creators.
Run time is about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Tickets will go on sale Friday, Oct. 28. For updates, visit http://fathomevents.com or text ARTS to FATHOM (328466).
