A film festival to mark Women’s History Month will be held on Saturday, March 26th 10:30 am-7pm at the Downtown Independent Theater, 251 South Main Street, LA 90012. For presale tickets: www.downtownindependent.com. Under the theme “Invest in Caring Not Killing”, the Festival will feature five films: 10:30am Women and Work Double Feature: All Work and No Pay, a classic from the 70’s women’s movement, plus Caring Survival & Justice vs the Tyranny of the Market, Selma James and a Baroness take on market feminism. 1pm Women and Incarceration: Civil Brand, a cult favorite about a women prisoners’ revolt. 3:00pm Women and War: The Invisible War, academy award nominated indictment of widespread sexual attacks on women in the military. 5pm Indigenous Women and the Environment: Broken Rainbow, Oscar-winning documentary - Indigenous grandmothers vs energy companies as they defend their land and culture. Each film followed by Q&A. Special Guests include Doc Wilson of Mandrill, Margaret Prescod host of KPFK’s “Sojourner Truth, and more. So Cal Planning Group includes Alexandria House, DCFS Give Us Back Our Children, Every Mother is a Working Mother Network, Guerilla Food Not Bombs, KPFK’s “Sojourner Truth”, Martin Luther King Coalition of Greater LA, Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace chapters 067 and 110, Women of Color/Global Women’s Strike and GWS/LA.
