Xipe Totec Danzantes Aztecas invites you to 36 years of celebration for Cuauhtemoc, last leader of the Aztec resistance
The ceremony, hosted by Xipe Totec Danzantes Aztecas and community artists will take place in front of the bronze monument of Cuauhtemoc and will pay homage to the 11th and last Aztec prince.
This year’s celebration marks the 36th annual ceremony in Los Angeles. The ceremony honors Cuauhtemoc\'s birthday and legacy and this year will also honor Florencio Yescas, founder of Aztec dance in the United States.
The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a procession starting at Downey Park Recreation Center at 1775 N. Spring Street and ending at Parque Mexico.
The event is open to the community. Invitations to participate in the danzada are formally made to the Capitanas and Capitanes of invited groups.
Come by and experience first hand this beautiful ceremony. Well over 200 danzantes from the United States and Mexico gather to pay homage to Cuauhtemoc by dancing in unity. Live traditional ancestral music is played by local artists, and vendors/artisans come to sell their unique handmade items.
For a second opportunity to see the energy and spirit of danza, the danzada will continue on Sunday at Olvera Street.
