ANSWER LA invites you to a party and celebration to mark one year of organizing in our Downtown LA office. Join us for live music, drinks, dancing and solidarity! Just one year ago, ANSWER LA organizers engaged in a two-month grassroots effort building, sanding, painting and renovating a new center in Downtown Los Angeles.
This past year, our ANSWER LA office has been a hub of organizing and education in the heart of LA: - hosted two extensive film series (on Black liberation and the Cuban Revolution) - held regular public forums on current events - served as an organizing center for the July 21 statewide march & March 22 statewide organizing conference against police terror - mobilized caravans to significant social justice gatherings in Tuscan, AZ and Albuquerque, NM - held local events in coordination with national days of action against drone warfare - organized protests to free Marissa Alexander - organized street marches to defend women?s rights & equality - hosted a series of feminist study groups and classes on socialism - been a space for meetings, work sessions and socializing for community activists and allies - held events in solidarity with Cuba, Venezuela and the struggle in Latin America - organized emergency actions to protest AGAINST the Syria war - organized emergency protests AGAINST the outrageous Zimmerman verdict - organized emergency protests AGAINST the injustice of Kelly Thomas?s killers being freed - organized emergency protests AGAINST the murder of Andy Lopez - organized emergency protests AGAINST the unjust sentencing of Chelsea Manning
From shutting down the Downtown streets in protest the war drive against Syria, to massing on the doorstep of the LAPD headquarters against police violence, we are excited to continue building the movement against war and racism and for social justice in Southern California.
We invite you to join us to celebrate one year of organizing and activism in our new home.
