Helix Collective celebrates the release of World Dance Club, a recording in the club classical genre, on Phat Yak Records. Club classical is music for bars and clubs by classical musicians who cut their teeth in that scene. It fuses hip hop, world, rock and classical styles. The Free Times called Helix Collective's version of the genre classical "kicked in the ass by a rock drum set."
The band will perform music from the album along with quickie dance lessons for the audience. Everyone is then invited to boogie-down. The music is a lightning-speed trip around the world including Three Bollywood Dances by film composer Mark Weiser; a Klezmer, Waltz and Rag by New York composer Stephen Dankner; Me Quema by the LA-based salsa band, the Berger-Sanchez Project; Tom, a bluegrass song by Serban Nichifor and Mixer Dances, renaissance-hard rock tunes by ensemble composer, Phil Popham. Don't miss the classical dance club party and celebration!
