Around the world and the U.S., women are protesting rape, domestic violence and other gender-based attacks. Radical Women’s 2013 International Women’s Day commemoration will feature a speak out in defense of Marissa Alexander, an African American mother from Jacksonville, Florida in jail for firing a warning shot to stop an attack by her estranged husband. Though no one was hurt, she was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and faces a 20-year prison sentence.
