Dear friends, students, faculty, and members of UCR and the community, 1.19 (January 19th), Thursday witnessed one of the historical moments at UCR. More than 1000 students and protestors were fighting side by side for the preservation of public higher education and against the privatization of UC and the irresponsible and unaccountable Regents. However, militarized police from UCPD and regional offices were used against the public. Why? They protect the interests of the Regents and repress anyone who is fighting for this great public university, the UC!
We call all members of UCR and the community to join a PUBLIC discussion to reflect on 1.19, to share your thoughts and to look into the future. Students and faculty will speak at this public forum. Come up, speak out and share your experience and thoughts. You are not alone. Time: Wed, Feb 01, 2012 at 1pm Place: Bell Tower, UCR Schedule: 1:00-1:10 Intro 1:10-1:15 Poem recital 1:15-1:55 Speakers 1:55-2:25 Public discussion, Q&A with speakers 2:25- rally Speakers (tentative): Susan Straight - faculty at Creative Writing, UCR Goldberry Long - faculty at Creative Writing, UCR Farah Godrej - faculty at Political Science, UCR Patricia Morton - faculty at Art History, UCR Luz Elena - student victim, arrested at UCR protest
