American Jewish University (AJU) announced today that they will join fifty other local galleries and museums in participating in a city-wide examination of Los Angeles area art for the years 1945-1980. Celebrating Pacific Standard Time: 1945-1980 at the Galleries of American Jewish University, will open at the university's Platt and Borstein Galleries with a ?Meet the Artists? reception on Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 3-5pm. The purpose of this project is to highlight the unique contribution of artists in Southern California during the post World War II era. Curators Elizabeth Bloom and Elaine Levin have selected a representative group of eighteen Jewish artists; Pat Berger, Edward Biberman, William Brice, Judy Chicago, Lorser Feitelson, Max Finkelstein, Dave Fox, Michael Frimkess, David Furman, Baila Goldenthal, Peter Krasnow, David Rose, Ruth Rossman, Julius Shulman, Joyce Treiman, June Wayne, Ruth Weisberg and Joe Young. These artists work in a variety of media; acrylic, oil and watercolor painting, prints, pencil, pastel and gouache. Two ceramists and a sculptor working in metal round-out the diversity of materials. Subject matter covers a wide spectrum, from landscape and the human figure to architecture interpreted through realism, abstraction and expressionism.
