The Orange County chapter?s August 20th event features former Americans United litigation fellow Liz Stevens. She will be speaking on: "The Interaction Between The Establishment And Free Exercise Clauses of the Constitution.? Liz played a crucial role in seeing that Westphal v. Wagner, challenging prayers at Saddleback College, was brought to court. Ms. Stevens will consider the proposed circumcision ban in San Francisco from a First Amendment perspective. At present, the proposed law does not include a religious exemption. Does it therefore violate the Free Exercise Clause? Regardless, would a religious exemption be permissible under the Establishment Clause? The event takes place on Saturday, August 20th at 2:00 PM, at the Irvine Ranch Water District, 15600 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine. Doors open at 1:30 for snacks and socializing; seating will be on a first-come, first-seated basis.
