Shastri (Shambhala Senior teacher) Ethan Nichtern will explore how people can live sane and dignified lives in an often seemingly insane city.
Los Angeles is the city of dreams, obsessed with status, beauty, and power; a community focused on ?me?. Amidst a Hollywood culture that is always looking for a new way to deny impermanence, Nictern asks , ?Is there any possibility to connect with a person?s true nature to be fully awake? Is there any way to relax and open to a perspective beyond ?what about me??? Shastri Ethan Nichtern is the founding director of the Interdependence Project, an NYC based nonproft dedicated to Buddhist-inspired meditation and psychology, integral activism, mindful arts, and meaningful media.
He is also author of the acclaimed book One City: A Declaration of Interdependence (Wisdom Pubs). His writing has been featured on Huffington Post, Beliefnet, Tricycle Magazine, BuddhaDharma magazine, Reality Sandwich, and other online publications. He is currently on the part-time faculty at Eugene Lang College at New School University and lectures regularly at universities. The Los Angeles Shambhala Meditation Center (http://la.shambhala.org) offers practice and study. It is part of Shambhala International, a community of urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by the Vidyadhara Ch?gyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and now led by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
