Join the ongoing discussion of Value, Price and Profit, which was a speech by Marx in 1865 to the International Workingmens Association. Marx used his analysis of capitalist economy to defend the right of the earliest trade unions in the U.S. to fight for better conditions. A portion of the socialist movement saw trade union struggles as futile and advocated that concious workers withdraw from capitalist society altogether to join eutopian socialist societies instead of fighting for gains under capitalism.
