Cine Clandestino

Underground Cinema

Presents: Chavez, Venezuela and the New Latin America

(A film by Aleida Guevara, daughter of Che Guevara)

On February 4th, 1992, a group of soldiers and officers in the Venezuelan army led a military rebellion against then President Carlos Andres Perez. The rebellion was carried out as a response to the bloody events of the 1989 “Caracazo,” an even in which thousands of innocent civilians died at the hands of the Venezuelan Metropolitan police under orders of President Perez. The Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement 200 (MBR200), as they became known, was a clandestine movement with revolutionary ideology inside the Venezuelan military. Up until then, the military had only follow directions from the bourgeoisie and US imperialism. Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias emerged as the leader of the rebellion, future president and the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution in the 21st century. Come and commemorate the event that started the Venezuelan process for social change. Drinks and snacks will be available, as well as lots of political discussion and ample opportunity to get involved in upcoming March 19th antiwar demonstration and the struggle for revolutionary change.
