In the approximate century and a half, since the birth of Marxism, its definition has been watered down by many, in an attempt to make its relationship to the real class struggle disappear. But Marxism isn\'t an academic exercise - it\'s a science for understanding and - at the same time - accomplishing the liberation of the working class and all of those who are most oppressed by the exploitative system of capitalism. In this series of classes we\'ll be examining the life of Karl Marx and historical events illustrating Marxism. We\'ll discuss the Paris Commune, 2nd International, Russian revolution and more while interjecting today\'s challenges for the working class.
At the Saturday classes there will be a presentation and review of where we\'ve been in the series, and then an open discussion during which we will take turns reading, commenting and discussing the material. No need to prepare and don\'t worry about missing any sessions. Beginners to Marxism and even activism are all welcome. After this, some reading will be recommended and photocopied material will be provided. Snacks (healthy and otherwise) will be available.
