The progressive coalition of labor, LGBT, feminist, environmental, immigration, and civil rights organizations that helped elect Barack Obama congratulated ourselves for the landslide victory, and then waited for the progress to wash over us like a pleasant wave.
It sure didn't work out that way! Obama was also supported by Wall Street, some business interests, and millions of left-of-center, free floating lacking-a-real-agenda "slacktivists" who finally stopped slacking and got activated by the Obama campaign.
And he's treated them a lot better than he's treated the groups that make up the strong backbone of progressive liberal politics in this country.
On October 2, we're coming together in Washington DC and in Los Angeles to rebuild our strength.
Join up and let's get it started again!
The LA event will focus on supporting the Jerry Brown campaign. He's ahead in the polls, but the mountain of money that Meg Whitman can decimate his microscopic lead.
Not only that, but the "countercultural" support base that originally got him into power is gone, daddy, gone... or at least gone to the right. The man is desperate.
We're all fucking desperate.
We slept and slipped up, and November can serve us up.
The teabaggers and fascists and business and banking interests are coalescing around a promise of mass layoffs, massive disinvestment in public infrastructure, pay cuts, and the discipline of increased unemployment.
We can't let this happen.
-- This post is not by http://www.onenationca.org/ , but someone who is attending the event and is tired of the lame-ass Democrat cheerleading that's sinking this event and hope for a liberal victory in November.
