For more info call 213-251-1025 or email answerla@answerla.org.
Join the ANSWER Coalition at a Public Forum and Film Premiere for an eyewitness report from the front lines of the Palestinian struggle for self-determination. There will be speakers, discussion, food, drinks, and a premiere screening of a film about Palestine by award-winning filmmaker Travis Wilkerson.
* Eyewitness Palestine: Our featured speaker will be Tamara Khoury, ANSWER Coalition organizer and Cal State Fullerton Student. Khoury, a Palestinian American, spent the summer studying at Birzeit University in the West Bank, Palestine. She witnessed the brutality of the Israeli occupation and the ingenuity and continued resistance of the Palestinian people. At Birzeit, Khoury was a primary organizer of a right to education conference for Palestinian students and youth. She will relate her experiences and show photos of her time this summer living in Palestine.
* What's Behind the New 'Peace Talks': Palestinian American activist Muna Coobtee will discuss the prospects of "peace" with the new round of talks, and what it really means for the Palestinian struggle. The U.S. government claims to want "peace" for Palestine. But what they say and what they mean are two different things. The White House aims to create a weak, disarmed and broken-up state side-by-side with and dominated in every respect by Israel, the world's fifth-ranked military power. Hear a comprehensive analysis and join in the discussion.
* Film Premiere 'The Sand Creek Equation': Sundance Film Festival award-winning filmmaker Travis Wilkerson ("An Injury to One") will be at the forum to present his new film about Palestine. The documentary takes the viewer on a lyrical journey from occupied Gaza to Sand Creek Colorado, the site of a notorious massacre by U.S. troops of Native Americans. It draws historical parallels between the Palestinian and the Native American experiences and brings the viewer into the narrative of both peoples, always urging action and support for the Palestinian liberation struggle.
