RACISM & THE \'GROUND ZERO MOSQUE\' Plus: Marx was Right--The Shrinking \'Middle Class\'
Friday, Aug. 27, 7:30 pm 137 N. Virgil Ave, #203, Los Angeles 90004 (5 min. from Vermont & Beverly Metro stop)
Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation this Friday, Aug. 27, for a Public Forum in Los Angeles. There will be political updates, analysis, discussion and opportunities for action. Join the struggle for socialism today!
* Racism & the \'Ground Zero Mosque\': The so-called Ground Zero Mosque \"debate\" has whipped up a fury of racist, right-wing hysteria against Arabs and Muslims. Politicans have vacillated, many siding with the extreme racists against the planned Islamic community center. Anti-Arab racism and Islamophobia are not new features of U.S. society. The government uses hatred to support its imperialist wars in the Middle East and to divide workers at home. Discuss the roots of the racist campaign, why socialists should care about this struggle, and how we can build solidarity with our Arab and Muslim sisters and brothers who are under attack.
* Marx Was Right--The Shrinking \'Middle Class\': The United States is supposedly based on the principle that anyone can work hard and \"make it.\" Yet, all we can see is an ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor. During this economic crisis, \"middle class\" workers are starting to feel their true position in capitalist society. As the latest economic trends reveal, the number of working people considered \"middle class\" is shrinking dramatically, as that income bracket feels the crunch. Hear the latest data that dispels the United States\' founding myth, the worsening conditions for workers, and the need for class unity.
* Kashmir & National Oppression: In their struggle for self-determination, at least 57 people in Kashmir have been killed by the police since June 2010. As typical for the U.S. media, the clashes are explained as centuries-old conflicts rooted in religious dogma and ethnic differences. But the struggle in Kashmir, like all \"religious-based\" conflicts, are in fact class-based. Join us for a report on the developments in Kashmir, the true colonial roots of the conflict, and a Marxist explanation of why the material conditions in capitalist society are to blame.
