Learn about the Ugandan Skate and Solidarity Project
Join Andy Stepanian for a talk and screening of video about Uganda\'s only Skatepark. Amidst a vicious civil conflict a group of Ugandan youth started their own DIY skatepark & social center that embodies peace & solidarity at it\'s finest.
The skate park in Kitintale, Uganda, hand built by kids, can\'t help but be an inspiration to everyone who learns about it. Its the only park in all of war-torn East Africa and a small refuge in a place immeshed in a 20 year long civil conflict.
Andy will talk about the project that delivered over 100 pairs of brand new skate shoes, dozens of new decks, skateboard trucks and clothes last year as well as the new effort to help the kids expand their park and build an adjacent school. This will cost them ,800 (US Dollars) to build and outfit with books & five computers, but in a country where public school ends at age 12, the DIY, solar-powered school is sorely needed.
Come learn more about the project and how you can help these kids make a bigger skatepark and much needed school. Andy\'s talk will include film footage from the skatepark in Kitintale, Uganda.
