Lt. Watada is an in-depth look at the case of Lt. Ehren Watada, the first commissioned military officer ot refuse to deploy to Iraq on the grounds that the war is immoral and illegal.
Inspired to join the Army after 9/11, Watada was encouraged by his battalion commander to learn everything he could about Iraq and the war. This research led him to conclude that the US invasion was an act of aggression based on lies. He also found it was in violation of the oath he swore as a soldier to uphold and defend the Constitution.
The film charts Watada's emergence as a public speaker and activists and chronicles the tense days of his court martial trial in Feb. 2007, which ended in a mistrial.
Co-sponsored by NCRR and AAVVO.
