You?re invited for an update on what?s happening on the ground in Haiti now. Haiti like Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan is also an occupied country.
*Hear the latest news from a representative of the Haiti Action Committee, what demands are coming from the grassroots in Haiti and about recent protests that are not being shown on TV.
*See the documentary film Lafanmi Selavi (Kreyol for ?the family is life?). Lafanmi Selavi was a group home and school for homeless children from the streets founded by Jean Bertrand Aristide when he was president of Haiti in the 1990?s. See the movement this president elected with 90% of the vote was leading, and what the US has tried to destroy by removing Aristide from his country not once but twice.
*Hear some history of this island nation?s resistance from young people who take issue with the image of Haiti fed to us by the media, who say Haitians are the ones who will know better what paths work for them.
*Hear how the Haitian grassroots has organized in the wake of the devastating earthquake and the militarization and theft of post-earthquake aid. What scheming by US and other government/business interests is being disguised as ?earthquake relief?? What has been the role of NGO?s?
*Learn about women in the temporary encampments who are pressing to be included in the reconstruction process of the new Haiti and for a return of President Aristide.
*What have been the contributions of Cuba and Venezuela? What of other Latin American governments who contribute forces to the UN occupation of Haiti?
*What were the similarities and differences between the coups in Haiti and the recent coup on Honduras?
*Get information about the global campaign in support of the Haitian grassroots demand for President Aristide to return for the reconstruction.
*What can we do in LA?
