Dear Academic and Community Allies,
The Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) Los Angeles Steering Committee cordially invites you to join our commemoration of the 68th anniversary of Bataan Day, which memorializes the military surrender at the Bataan Peninsula.
On Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, we will be honoring our local Filipino American World War II veterans, especially those who survived the Bataan Death March, at the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) 1740 W Temple St, Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles, CA 90026.
We respectfully request that you and/or a few representatives from your organization sponsor 5 – 6 of the veterans by preparing and presenting them with recognition certificates on April 10th. As much as possible, we would like to take this opportunity to further forge the connection between the younger and elder generations.
Concurrently, this year's Bataan Day commemoration will also herald the launch of the grassroots campaign to support the lawsuit that JFAV and attorney Arnedo Valera, Esq. will soon bring against the US Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Although our community's efforts have recently guaranteed Filipino American veterans a one-time lump sum payment through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, this is a far cry from full recognition and several months have passed with thousands of veterans who have yet to receive a single penny of their promised compensation. JFAV demands an explanation from the DVA as to why this inequity continues and the veterans need your support now more than ever.
There are several ways you and/or your organization can help: Assist with preparing and presenting the veterans' recognition certificates.
Promote the commemoration by posting flyers, making announcements, forwarding the Facebook event invite, etc.
Provide volunteers to assist with the commemoration's set-up and clean-up duties.
Provide an in-kind donation.
Send a tax-deductible donation.
Purchase a dollar quarter page ad in our commemoration program.
Checks can be made out to “People's CORE.” Please note “JFAV” in the memo and mail to:
People's CORE c/o Jason Yap 1610 Beverly Blvd, Suite #2 Los Angeles, CA 90026
Please RSVP no later than Monday, April 5th, 2010 so we may plan for you and/or your organization accordingly. To RSVP and confirm your contributions, please contact any of the following:
