On October 15 is when Mobilization for Health Care for All goes national. We're excited to announce that "Patients Not Profit" sit-ins will be happening in at least 9 cities across the country this Thursday! Now is the time for you to mobilize, call the media, make signs and get arrested for the cause.
My name is Sam Pullen and I will be coordinating the sit-in at the Blue Cross office in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, October 15. We are calling upon all local supporters who are fed up with insurance companies that place profits before patients to join us for a rally:
WHEN: Thursday, October 15 -10am - 12noon
WHERE: We will be targeting the Blue Cross office at 801 S. Figueroa Ave, LA, CA 90017
WHAT: The public action will begin at 10am as a rally with drummers and chanting. Those willing to risk arrest will attempt to enter the building, and if we are denied entry, we will sit outside the door. We will be very disciplined and have a clear distinction between those risking arrest and those who are legally rallying. Click HERE for a map of the action location.
NONVIOLENCE TRAINING: To prepare for this action, we invite all participants (both those risking arrest and those who will legally rally outside) to attend our non-violence training and action prep meeting on Wednesday, October 14 from 6-8pm at the Plaza Methodist Church on Olvera Street near Union Station. We will be making signs & banners, practicing chants and songs, and reviewing the action plan. The easiest way to arrive during rush hour is to take the metro to Union Station and then walk across the street to the Methodist Church. If you are driving, there is a parking at the corner of N. Los Angeles Street and Arcadia St. off Alameda. Click here for a map of the area.
On the day of the action, those willing to risk arrest should meet at Denny's on 888 S Figueroa St, Ste 180, Los Angeles, CA for a final nonviolence training and legal prep from 9-10am. Please contact Sam Pullen at or by phone (760) 275-7874 if you are willing to risk arrest OR if you can volunteer to prepare for the action.
DIRECTIONS / PARKING:
The best way for folks to arrive is to take the Red Line subway (lower level at Union Sta), get off at the 7th St Metro station, and come up to the street level on the Figueroa St escalator (7th & Figueroa). You'll be literally 1 block from 8th & Figueroa. There are several parking lots in the immediate area, and metered parking on 8th street under the 110 fwy bridge. Bring a drum or instrument or noisemakers and be prepared to chant. You can also make signs with the slogans:
HEALTH CARE FOR ALL OR PATIENTS NOT PROFITS OR BLUE CROSS / IS THE REAL DEATH PANEL
Generations of Americans have fought to insure that health care is a right for all, and we are determined to leave a legacy of universal health care for future generations. Forward this message to everyone you know, and encourage them to sign the pledge at www.MobilizeforHealthCare.org
