On September 26, 2009, the Inland Empire branch of the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi organization, showed up at the day labor corner outside of the Riverside Home Depot to protest illegal immigration. They unfurled flags with swastikas and attempted to spread a message of hate, but were not welcomed by the community and left early.
The following Friday, they \"protested\" the Jewish temple in Riverside (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYJgHJN72EI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpNEfWR5ksM) and that night, a church viewed as supportive of the pro-diversity movement was vandalized with satanic and antisemitic grafitti. (http://blogs.pe.com/news/digest/2009/10/riverside-church-discussing-re.html). It was across the street from the church where the coalition meets.
They have announced that they will return to the day labor corner on Saturday, October 24 at 10:AM and that they will be bringing \"Stormtroopers.\" The Stormtroopers were a Nazi paramilitary organization crucial to Hitler\'s rise to power.
This is a call to all who favor diversity and who oppose the politics of hate and violence to stand in solidarity with their immigrant brothers and sisters as they come under attack from these right-wing extremists. Organizers are asking participants to wear blue in solidarity with the immigrants (blue was the color of the badges assigned to immigrants in Nazi concentration camps) and to join in this peaceful demonstration.
The demonstration will be followed by a community victory celebration at Villegas Park upon the departure of the fascists. There will be food and music, and a collection of canned and boxed foods will be taken up for the needy residents of the area.
Please come to help us show the world what our community is really about: Peace, democracy, inclusion, racial equality, and tolerance.
