Outdoor Performance in Coldwater Canyon Park July 31, Aug. 1

WHAT

TreePeople and Actor?s Conservatory Ensemble present a staged reading of FENCES, August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-Winning Drama about an African-American family as the 1950's begin to yield to the new spirit of liberation of the 1960's. "One of the richest experiences I've ever had in the theatre" (Clive Barnes, New York Post). FENCES is directed by Eileen Mack Knight, with Ovation Award Winner Charlie Robinson as Troy Maxson.

In FENCES, Troy Maxson has had to be strong and hard to survive the pressures of being a black man in America but this new era has made him a stranger to the changing world and his wife and son. A man of full-bodied emotion, he spins yarns, preaches his views and dispenses advice and discipline in a pre-air conditioned time when the back porch was the platform for some of the most exciting talk of the day.
